Only very very occasionally do I feel so angry at something do I feel the need to post about it.
This morning is one of those times…
When I take a photograph, its simple…I own that image!!
If you want to use it, you buy it!
Now, I’m a reasonable person and I charge a reasonable price for the images I take.
I’ve spent thousands of pounds on my photography gear, hundreds more in training, and years spent in travel and experience, just to try and earn a living from my photos.
IF YOU TAKE A PHOTO WITHOUT PERMISSION ITS THEFT!
(that goes for using it on Facebook, Twitter, or printing it and hanging it on your wall)
So you can imagine my frustration when a software engineer from Facebook, writes a blog post on how to steal graduation photos from a website and remove the watermark!!
(the blog post has been removed, after the huge backlash from photographers, but you can read more about it here… http://fstoppers.com/facebook-software-engineer-teaches-you-how-to-steal-copyrighted-images)
I appreciate that you can teach techniques for removing watermarks for legitimate reasons, but this guy is actually teaching how to steal a photographers work! That would be like teaching someone how to pick a lock, so they can steal the contents of someone’s home!
This makes me really angry!
I digitally embed a watermark on my images, so there is no way to remove it and I can track the usage of my photos.
I’m a photographer and artist, and I need to earn a living from my images.
